Got the skipjack plans and they look great. I also want to build a Newport 12 so I'll probably make the two of them at the same time. Is anyone on here besides me? Do you find this valuable?

Did you also get the DVD that shows the building process? If so has it been updated to show the process to completion? I've seen one copy that just stops about halfway through. Thanks Do you find this valuable?

I did not get the DVD. First of all DVD's of instruction invariably fall short of providing all the info on any given subject. Secondly I figure that if I don't have the building knowledge to build a boat from plans alone then I need more experience in order to do so. Building a boat is generally the same proceedure for all boats. Start at the keel and build up. After building a few kits you will get the gist of hull construction and mast rigging and superstructure construction. Add a couple of RC equiped boats and you can then visualize a boat from just the plans. What's different is that building from plans alone you must gather wood and trace the parts from the plans to cut from the wood you chose. That's a whole other subject that mostly you can develop on your own.
So throw the DVD away or don't buy it,get out your plans and get to work. Take a lot of pictures as you go along and think ahead of what the next step will be and leave time and room to get it done. You will rapidly gain confidence in your ability and find that you don't need the DVD or anything else to build a great looking model of any kind. Pete

The DVD does fall short but on the other hand I found it extremely helpful in regard to the areas that it does cover. It helped to clear up some things I was concerned about. I think it's worth it.

Not really plans, but the first sign of life on your side I've seen. What is the source of the 1/8" ID brass grommets used on the sails?

Thanks....
