What are the RG-65 Remote Control Sailboats? Select "RG65 Brief History" to your left and you will be provided some historical insight on these wonderful little homemade boats. This subject surfaced with absolutely perfect timing. Your officers were feverishly seeking Winter project ideas that might spark some interest. Focus was directed to the "Footy" sailboat and was going to be a suggestion to pursue for Winter activity. In September Al Suydam and Butch Garren raced in the Vintage Nationals in Spring Lake, NJ when Earl Boebert suggested that we review the RG-65 as a possible alternative to the "Footys". His key statement was that the Footys looked liked little rubber duckies. Al & Butch looked at each other and agreed that would not be satisfactory. Earl kindly presented Al with a CD that had a bunch of plans for RG-65s. Upon arrival back to Maryland the CD was investigated by Al and Butch pursued the subject on the Internet. After much dialog back and forth between the two, it was decided that the RG-65 needed to be presented to the club. Al has already completed the Palo de Agua while Butch is building the JIF. The subject was broached at the November 8, 2008 meeting and there was an unexpected amount of interest. More will be written on this subject.
